ABOUT

Peggy first came to her mat in 2009 having always wanted to try yoga but never really having an opportunity. Being completely inspired by that first heart opening experience and the feeling that comes from a strong alignment practice, once a week classes quickly became as often as possible.

She began attending workshops and intensives in 2011, which led her to do an Immersion/Teacher Training in 2013-14 at the Shakti Yoga Shala School of Hatha Yoga with several amazing teachers including Samantha “Shakti” Matthews, Kenny Graham, Siri Cavanna, Ashleigh Sergeant, Alice Kennedy, Kelly Blaser and Michelle Nayeli Bouvier. Other trainings include The Prison Yoga Project Training Seminar in July 2014 with James Fox and completing Advanced Teacher Training and Mentorship, an additional 300 hours at the Shakti Yoga Shala in March 2016.  In November 2017, Peggy attended a Trauma-Informed Teacher Training with Kyra Haglund to enhance both her public classes as well as the ones she taught in jail.

Yoga has been a prominent part of Peggy's life since that first class. It has helped her cope with many difficult life changes as well as to simply feel better in her body. “I practice on my mat to live off my mat.”

Peggy believes that a yoga practice should be fun as well as nurturing and that everyone should have access to the practice and the benefits that come from it. She is a founding member and was longest standing volunteer of the Yoga For All Movement that was formed to bring yoga to the under-served populations of Santa Cruz County. She taught a yoga class to the  men that wished to attend at the Rountree Jail facility in Watsonville, CA beginning in November 2014 and has also taught the women at the Main Jail in Santa Cruz, CA.  When the pandemic began in March of 2020, she had to step back form this role. It was a 5+ year run.  After moving back to the Sacramento Valley in the Summer of 2021, and the pandemic slowing down, Peggy is looking for new places in her new community to share the practice.

When Peggy isn't on her mat practicing or teaching a class, you can find her at home, hanging out with her husband, dog and 2 cats, perhaps sewing, gardening, creating art, curled up with a good book or having the best time with her new granddaughter.
